FIS Group Invests $35m in Aubrey’s Global Emerging Market (GEM) Strategy

Fiduciary Investment Solutions (FIS Group) has mandated $35 million into the Aubrey Capital Management’s Emerging Markets Strategy and so enters FIS Group’s Emerging Markets ‘buy list’.

Aubrey co-founder and fund manager, Andrew Dalrymple said, “We are delighted to have gone through FIS Group’s extensive due diligence process and to have been selected to be part of its Emerging Manager buy list. In spite of perceived global economic headwinds, we continue to see opportunities in Emerging Markets at the company level as many economies move steadily and inexorably through their growth cycles.”

The Aubrey Global Emerging Market (GEM) strategy

The Aubrey GEM strategy focuses on rapidly growing sectors in countries with a stable political and economic backdrop which supports income growth. The strategy plays into the aspirations of more than five billion potential customers in the Emerging world. Those aspirations mirror those in the developing world: better food, housing, transport, healthcare, education, entertainment, and lifestyle.

Aubrey has identified that each sector, country, and region has its own investment dynamic. It then looks to the strongest growth areas within that mix. For example, in India it focuses on consumer staples, the financial sector and basic transport. In wealthier China, its preferences are for the rapidly expanding e-commerce sector, travel, and education.

Aubrey invests in median market cap companies of around $6bn. These companies are highly cash generative well-managed local champions with strong balance sheets. Aubrey expects them to achieve short term earnings growth of above 15% per annum.

Aubrey also seeks to avoid hotspots, looking to countries with a business-friendly environment, a growing economy and rising household incomes. The firm looks for those countries where there is a ‘feel good factor’ and limits its exposure to areas where these factors are absent.
