Sharon Bentley-Hamlyn to retire from Aubrey Capital Management after 18 years

Edinburgh, 17th September 2024, Aubrey Capital Management (“Aubrey”), the Edinburgh and London-based specialist investment manager, has announced today that Sharon Bentley-Hamlyn, co-founder and Director of the firm, will retire at the end of September 2024.

Sharon, who co-founded Aubrey in 2006 following her tenure as a Director at Walter Scott & Partners, has been instrumental in managing the firm’s European Conviction Strategy since 2008. In the lead-up to Sharon’s retirement, we have informed clients that the Aubrey European Conviction Fund will close on 18 September 2024. In addition, Aubrey intends to close the SVS Aubrey Europe Ex UK Fund subject to FCA approval.

Sharon has achieved remarkable success as a top-percentile, AAA-rated fund manager. A key figure in the firm’s adoption of sustainability practices, Sharon pioneered the implementation of Aubrey’s proprietary in-house ESG analysis. This innovative approach has been pivotal in securing SFDR Article 8 status for the Aubrey European Conviction Fund and others within the firm.

In addition to her outstanding work as a fund manager, Sharon has played a crucial leadership role at Aubrey, serving as a Director and actively contributing to the firm’s Board and management committees. More recently, she founded and led Aubrey’s Sustainability Committee. Under her leadership, Aubrey became a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), affirming its dedication to responsible investment practices.

Sharon has also been a passionate advocate for mentorship, guiding and supporting many of Aubrey’s investment analysts. Sharon has been actively involved in projects and organisations such as 100 Women in Finance, The Woman Fund, and Future Asset, an initiative that encourages young women in Scotland to consider careers in investment management.

Andrew Ward, Chief Executive Officer at Aubrey Capital Management, commented,

“We are deeply grateful for Sharon’s outstanding contributions to Aubrey over the past 18 years. Her leadership in driving our European equity strategy has been instrumental to our success and in developing the depth and breadth of our investment team.

“While we will miss Sharon’s presence at Aubrey, we celebrate her remarkable legacy and wish her all the best in her future endeavours. I have no doubt that she will continue to make a significant impact wherever her path leads next.

“Aubrey Capital Management extends its deepest gratitude to Sharon for her years of dedication, leadership, innovation and wishes her every success in her future ventures and projects.”
